The AWP (Arctic Warfare Police) is the most iconic sniper rifle in Counter-Strike. A single body shot kills any opponent, but it costs $4,750 and only rewards $100 per kill.
Overview
The AWP is a bolt-action sniper rifle dealing 115 base damage — enough to one-shot kill to the chest, stomach, or head at any range. Only leg shots are non-lethal (but still deal ~85 damage). The scope provides two zoom levels.
Strategy
- Hold angles and take the first shot — the bolt action leaves you vulnerable if you miss
- Pairs well with a pistol for close-range backup
- The $100 kill reward means you need kills just to sustain buying it
- Quick-scoping is viable but risky
- No-scoping is extremely inaccurate — only as a last resort
- The AWP is the most impactful single weapon in competitive CS2
- Teams typically run 1-2 AWPs maximum due to cost
