Counter-Strike 2 offers several game modes for different playstyles.

Premier

  • Format: 5v5, 24 rounds (MR12)
  • Ranking: CS Rating (ELO-based number)
  • Map Selection: Both teams veto maps, one remains
  • The primary ranked competitive mode in CS2.

Competitive

  • Format: 5v5, 24 rounds
  • Ranking: Skill Groups (Silver I to Global Elite)
  • Map Selection: Players choose which maps to queue
  • Per-map ranks allow specialization.

Wingman

  • Format: 2v2, 16 rounds
  • Ranking: Separate Skill Groups
  • Maps: Smaller maps with one bombsite
  • Fast-paced ranked mode for duo partners.

Casual

  • Format: 10v10
  • Ranking: None
  • Free armor and defuse kits. Relaxed rules, no friendly fire.

Deathmatch

  • Format: Free-for-all
  • Ranking: None
  • Instant respawn, unlimited money. Used for warmup and aim practice.

Arms Race

  • Format: Free-for-all gun game
  • Ranking: None
  • Get a kill to advance to the next weapon. First to get a knife kill wins.

Retakes

  • Format: 5v5 post-plant scenarios
  • Ranking: None
  • Practice attacking and defending after the bomb is planted.
