The Incendiary Grenade is a Counter-Terrorist exclusive incendiary grenade in Counter-Strike 2. It is the CT counterpart to the Terrorist's Molotov Cocktail, functioning identically but costing $200 more.
Overview
The Incendiary Grenade creates a zone of fire upon impact that deals damage over time to any player standing in the flames. The fire lasts approximately 7 seconds and covers a circular area. It is one of the most important utility options in competitive play, used primarily for area denial and flushing enemies from positions.
Damage
- 40 damage per second to unarmored players
- ~28 damage per second to armored players (approximately 30% damage reduction with Kevlar)
- Damage is applied every game tick, accumulating quickly
- Fire damage is the same regardless of whether the player is moving through or standing still in the flames
Usage
Area Denial
The primary use of incendiary grenades is area denial:
- Block chokepoints to delay pushes
- Prevent bomb plants by throwing at bombsite positions
- Stop rushes through narrow corridors
- Force enemies to wait or take an alternate route
Flushing Positions
Incendiary grenades are excellent for clearing common hiding spots:
- Throw behind cover to force enemies into the open
- Clear corners before peeking
- Dislodge AWPers from defensive positions
Post-Plant
- Throw on the bomb to delay defusers
- Forces CTs to either wait out the fire or take damage while defusing
- Combined with proper positioning, can make defusal extremely difficult
Interaction with Smoke Grenades
A key mechanic is the interaction between fire and smoke grenades:
- Smoke extinguishes fire — Throwing a smoke on an active fire will put it out instantly
- This is a critical counter-play mechanic in competitive matches
- Players should always save a smoke to counter potential Molotov/incendiary grenades in clutch situations
Differences from Molotov
| Property | Incendiary Grenade | Molotov Cocktail |
|---|---|---|
| Team | Counter-Terrorist | Terrorist |
| Price | $600 | $400 |
| Damage | Identical | Identical |
| Duration | Identical | Identical |
| Behavior | Identical | Identical |
The only differences are the team restriction and price. The CT incendiary costs $200 more to balance the defensive advantage CTs naturally have.
Tips
- Learn common incendiary lineups for each map to deny key positions
- Always pair with a Smoke Grenade in your buy — you may need to extinguish enemy fire
- The fire spreads on flat surfaces; throwing on slopes or stairs may produce uneven coverage
- You can throw an incendiary at your own feet if being rushed — enemies must push through the fire
