The M249 is a light machine gun available to both teams in Counter-Strike 2. It is the most expensive weapon in the game and is rarely purchased in competitive play due to its extreme cost and niche role.

Overview

At $5,200, the M249 is the most expensive weapon in CS2, costing even more than the AWP. It offers a 100-round magazine with high damage and armor penetration, but its extremely high price, slow movement speed, and long reload time make it an impractical choice in nearly all competitive situations.

The M249 fills the role of a heavy support weapon, capable of sustained fire and area denial, but the same roles can be performed more effectively and economically by rifles or even the much cheaper Negev.

Usage Tips

  • The M249 has a 100-round magazine allowing extended suppressive fire without reloading.
  • Its $5,200 price makes it an extremely poor economic choice. An AK-47 or M4A1-S will almost always be more effective for the money.
  • The M249 has decent armor penetration at 80%, making it capable against armored opponents.
  • Movement speed is severely reduced at 195 units/s, making rotations and repositioning sluggish.
  • If you choose the M249, use it to hold a fixed position and deny areas with sustained fire.
  • The Negev fills a similar role at a fraction of the cost ($1,700 vs $5,200).
